WWII: From Homefront to Warfront

The purpose of this project is to digitally preserve the World War II memories of Coal City area families. Oral history interviews conducted during 2008 are combined with a sampling of private photographs and personal memorabilia. Together these collections help convey both the military and civilian experiences during this crucial period in our country's history.

The staff is deeply grateful to all the community members who willingly came forward to share memories, either their own or those of a loved one, in support of this effort. Without their participation, this project would not have been possible.

Funding for this project was awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a Division of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

Special Thanks to the Coal City Public Library District for the use of equipment and work space, staff assistance, and support during this project.
